    Respected Sir,
With respect to yesterday’s telephonic conversation, I am a printing engineer currently working in BILT a paper manufacturing company in Gurgaon,New Delhi.I completed my graduation last year and was in a dilemma whether to go for M.S. or MBA. But now I have landed up to a conclusion of pursuing M.S.
I can go for either Packaging which is a booming industry or Print Media.
Same i can pursue in Germany or in USA.
Universiies in Germany: HDM Stuttgart, Wuppertal, BH Berlin, TU Chemnitz, Hochschule Munich.
Universities in USA: Rochester Institute of Technology, Clemson University, Michigan state University and western Michigan university.

Of the abve which is the best option to go for Germany or USA.
If in Germany, then which University is the best and also same for in case of USA.
For Unis in Germany i’ve been learning German (nw in B2.1 levelof MMB)as its their pre-requisite.
Kindly help me with this confusion. As I said, I have also met you at your works during my college and was really very impressed by your knowledge.
Hence I believe that your word would certainly matter my decision about M.S.
    Hoping for your positive reply.

    Thanks and Regards,

With reference to your queries I had request two of my close friends and experts in the field of education and this is what they replied. Maybe it might help you. But please use this information only as a guidance.

      —————————————-

      1) If you ask me every area in Printing are important and enough scope is there. ( For best example…You have re- Whywritten the scope of screen printing specifically in India which 10 year back people thought screen printing is dieing. Even PIRA reports projected the same way?) Why? because you simply loved what you do nd created a blue ocean of yourself.

      2) I do agree Packaging may have more opportunities. But functional printing alone is going to create a huge market in the comming days where convenional printing technologies and inkjet are going to play a significant role.

      3) Regarding institutions…………May be i have a soft corner , I alays prefer for technical studies Germany and for management US.

      4) I rank German institutions as below.

      1) Technic University, Chemnitz / Technic University Darmstadt

      2) Bergische Universität Wuppertal

In US for “packaging” Michigan state University and for scientific studies RIT and others.

      —————————————-

It will depend on what this young man wants to pursue. There is every opportunity in Germany and the education in printing is the best there as there is good emphasis on fundamentals. Besides Germany is the cheapest option for study. Packaging, of course, is a very good option. TU Chemnitz is a very good university if he is interested in futuristic approach and investigative work. They offer masters in English language.

    Respected Sir,
Thank you for your advice. This would certainly help me for my future proceedings.
As you have mentioned about TU Dramstadt, I would like to ask that the course over there is focusing on development of machines and not on printing techniques. This was what I found on the their website and in print.de magazine. Whereas Print.de magazine has rated HDM Stuttgart 2nd ahead of TU Chemnitz on grounds of education and course content. So again there is a confusion. As I said language is not a barrier for me as I am ready to learn all the Levels of German language as per University requirement.
What is your opinion regarding this? Please help me out with this confusion.

    Dear Bhargav,
I can’t tell you how happy I am to have stumbled upon your blog. I feel that Indian companies somehow fall behind because of the lack of communication channel and un-exploitation of internet 🙂 . You seriously fill up that void and I am very happy that an Indian company has taken such an initiative to revolutionize the screen printing industry. I have been trying to find a nice screen printer in India in Delhi/NCR region who could provide screen printing services for several designs to be printed on T-shirts. I tried a lot to search for them over the internet but could not find somebody that instills faith in terms of quality. Generally people were more focused about knowing my income and background rather than the job at hand. I think screen printers should take up a cue from your book and be more professional. Your website graficaindia is a good example of modernization and professionalism.
I am planning to open up a T-shirt line with interesting designs and would really appreciate, if you could suggest some screen printers in Delhi/NCR who would be willing to work with me to print relatively smaller quantities in the beginning. I would prefer to work with somebody in love with his/her craft and be involved in the creative process.
Any help regarding this will be of great help.

    Thanks,
    Sunny Mittal

P.S. I read your interests and came to know that you like fusion music. Search for “Yoshida Brothers – Rising from Best Of Yoshida Brothers” or “Barra Barra – Black Hawk Down “on Youtube. I am sure you will love them. You will need to have some patience with the second one before it gets better. I have recently bought t-shirt printing machines ( manual chest printing machine, flash curers, electric curing machine, heat press etc) and I don’t know where to start.I need help.
I’ve had no training or anything as such (in screen printing). Basically I’m a graphic designer and I have some knowledge in plastisol/water base inks and additive but I know nothing about screen printing. I do know and understand the concepts of screen printing but that’s about it. I don’t know what to do now…I am in despair. How do I go about…?

Is there any short term training/course for screen printing? If so, please guide me.
I’ve search on the net but couldn’t find anything.

Would it be possible for me to come to DMI for a short term training?

I would like to suggest you to start up with some UG courses and PG courses in screen printing technology. There are no such institutions providing practicals+ theory hand to hand.
Moreover, e-learning in the same area would catch up as the best option. Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, are the growing cities and require such practical knowledge providing institutes.
Sir, you have much more knowledge than me, its just a suggestion, kindly do not misinterpret me.

    Hello Mr. Bhargav,
We’ve installed your UV machine with screen machine (20″ X 30″) with UV Dryer facility. At present I had a query, our client is requiring Window Aqueous varnish, instead of full Aqueous varnish. At present we are doing this on Offline coater. We have tried to do on a Offset machine with various options. 60% It is successful in terms of Gloss, but it’s getting fail in Rub resistance test. So I would like to ask you that, “can we print the Aqueous Varnish through the Screen Printing machine & pass it through the IR dryer, instead of UV dryer”? (considering the cost factor). UV varnish is the solution but it will be costly & the client could not afford. As We do not have the machine with IR dryer facility. So what would be your suggestion? I hope you can give some good ideas/suggestions considering the long experience in this segment.
    Thanks a lot.

You need to ask your ink supplier to give you screen printable aq. varnish. If they give you than yes you can cure in IR and than UV. Lot of offset printer use AQ. varnish using offset machine and screen print the UV Varnish on top to minimize the consumption of UV because of the substrate is highly absorbent than AQ varnish seals the layer and deliver better gloss and thus minimize consumption as I said also the gloss percentage also increases by doing that… Some of our customer does this has achieved even 90+ gloss measuring on a glooso meter but it all depends on the quality of inks and varnish. This is generally done on duplex boards for packaging. Applying AQ varnish on a matt laminated, gloss laminated or coated papers will not help… I mean its a waste of time and increases the process. Let me know what mesh count you use to apply UV varnish thru screen. If you are getting poor rub resistant than maybe you are under curing the ink/varnish… You need proper curing for that you need to either decrease the speed or use a high wattage lamp if you want faster speed to match the printing machine and also clean the lamps and reflectors regularly because the dust particles settles on the lamps also decreases the intensity thus decreases the curing speed. To clean the lamp wear cotton gloves to avoid direct contact of skin on the lamp surface. The best is to clean the lamp using some type of cloth we use to clean our specks and avoid water or any chemicals. But if still does not clean than use IPA to clean the lamp. Wet the same cloth and apply IPA to clean the surface of lamp and reflector.

      UV Processor Maintenance

Lamps and reflectors must be clean at the time of installation and maintained so the UV energy generated can reach the ink or coating.

As the UV processor is an optical system, all types of dust, powder, grease, smoke and misting ink must be cleaned from lamp and reflectors especially if other operations, such as running a press, with powder, are in the same area. Electrical fittings must also be cleaned to prevent arcing between fitting and lamp ends.

Dirty reflectors will reduce cure rates and increase temperature. Overheating from a dirty condition can cause warping, possibly reducing electrical spacing, and cause a short of the arc to ground.

A mild detergent and distilled water mixed at a ratio of 1¹ ounces to 1 gallon makes a good cleaning solution. After cleaning, rinse with clear distilled water and wipe or polish with a clean cloth. The advised method of cleaning is to check with the irradiator manufacturer for their recommended cleaning procedure. Grease or ink on lamp or reflectors will require washing with a solvent, then cleaning with a detergent solution. Clean alcohol or ammonia and distilled water can also be used for cleaning. The use of steel wool, emery paper, or abrasive powders is not recommended for cleaning lamps or reflectors.

Use a lint free cloth with Windex or Simple Green to clean. Don’t waste your money on special UV lamp cleaners as they have dubious value! If solvents are permitted, use isopropyl alcohol. For extreme cases use a mild abrasive such as Soft Scrub to clean the UV Lamp. Be sure to rinse any residue off the glass before reinstalling lamp. Always allow lamp to cool and disconnect all power prior to any cleaning.

      Regards,

      Bhargav

    Dear Mr. Bhargav Mistry,

I am a student of packaging technology from Munich University of Applied Sciences, currently pursuing my Master Thesis at Nestle PTC Singen, Germany. We had spoken before somewhere around April 2011 through Mr. Rishidev Choudhary (from Delhi), where I had asked for your advice for selecting the course for pursuing my masters. I have also visited your plant while I was a student at PVG’s COET in 2009.

With respect to my thesis regarding different textures on different substrates basically on flexibles, I would like ask you whether it is possible to get a catalogue of different textures from you or from a printer whom you have provided your machines in Europe. I am looking for textures of materials such as jute, handmade paper, banana leaf, coconut shell, coarse fabric etc. to be produced with the help of screen printing technology for the food grade packaging. While I was at Printpack exhibition in 2011, I had taken your brochure where there were some textures printed with special UV inks/ varnishes. I hope to reproduce the above mentioned textures with the help of screen printing.

It would be very grateful if you could please help me providing information regarding this. I hope to receive your positive reply.

    Kind regards,
    Pranav Kulkarni.

    Respected sir,

My self Hiren Chhatbar from Manoj Print Jetpur.

We are printer of cotton printed saree.
Last time I visited grafica seminar on advance screen printing and fm screening. It was a great experience for me to see those all things.

now this year we had cold printing table and all manual system. But now we want upgrade for machine printing. In our line we had flatbed screen printing machine available from companies like indian textile engineers, screenotex etc.,

my questions is sir, can we print allover fabric on flatbed as u were doing in fm screening like digital printing by screen on large scale for garment, suits, dupatta and saree.

Now days on heavy inkjet machine this type of printing is going on very small quantity.

My 2nd questions is you were using water based pigment inks but can we used reactive inks for cotton with help of guar gum and ager steam. Means our running traditional method for printing can be used ?? I wish I can take my chemical to grafica and make some taste like gradient printing with the help of guar gum based color paste. So what type of mixing u were doing is possible or not for color.

I hope u will understand my question.

    Thank you.

    Yours faithfully

Yes you can use FM Screening on any kind of screen printing jobs and what ever the size. In fact it’s very easy to print with FM compare to AM (Conventional Halftone Dots)
Regarding your 2nd question about reactive inks on cotton possible or not. It’s better to contact the ink manufacturers
But I can tell you one thing confidently that you can print with any type of inks with FM Screening
